About

Coach Nicks was born in Charlotte, North Carolina where he attended Independence High School. While at Independence, Coach Nicks was ranked as one of the Top 10 Players in North Carolina, was named the Charlotte Observer Offensive Player of the Year and selected to the North Carolina Associated Press All-State team.
Under Coach Tom Knotts, Independence High School was a high school football juggernaut winning multiple 4A State titles. Over the course of his time at Independence, Coach Nicks was part of a special group that never lost a game during their high school career culminating with MVP Honors in the 4AA North Carolina State Championship game.

Coach Nicks was recruited by and committed to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his time as a Tarheel, Nicks set single-season records for receptions and receiving yards as a freshman. Nicks completed his collegiate football career with being honored as First-Team All-ACC selection at Wide Receiver, in addition to, setting 14 school records. In the 2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl, Coach Nicks pulled in a reception from UNC QB TJ Yates that was chosen as a candidate for “Greatest Catch of the Year”.

Coach Nicks was selected in the First Round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. In 2011, the New York Giants completed an improbable season with a Superbowl title with a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots. During the 2011 NFL Playoffs, Nicks posted a franchise record with 28 receptions for 444 yards and 4 touchdowns. That franchise record still remains.

Following Nicks retirement, he went back to the place where his legacy began and made a philanthropic donation to UNC Chapel Hill football program. Nicks followed his donation with these words: “ I came in as an 18 year-old boy and left as a young man. It’s important that I give something back and try to help another young guy coming along”.

Coach Nicks returned to the Charlotte area and opened Nicks Elite Training where he continues to give back by training athletes.
